Welcome to Entertaining Health

Entertaining Health is an international group of volunteers who share ideas to create healthier conditions and cultures for people working in the entertainment and events industry.

Our Approach

We know from the inside that prioritizing worker health and safety is as crucial as it is overwhelming.

When our jobs and relationships are both rapid-paced and irregular, change can appear to be beyond the capabilities of any one person, organization or community.

Undertaking mass actions that make a splash and then disappear is not  very effective or sustainable.

Instead, our approach to change is incremental and cumulative, with a focus on sustainable micro-disruptions that, used consistently, add up to big changes over time.

We believe this kind of progress empowers people, stimulates the cross-pollination of ideas and energizes action.

.

 (People + Ideas) x (Consistency + Action) = Change

Ideas for Change

We are busy gathering resources of some amazing groups, organizations and communities that are already finding ways to address many of the challenges we may face. Rather than  duplicating that work, our aim is to break down the siloes that can prevent access to these resources. If you know of any group, organization  or community working to make people safer and healthier and you think we should include it, please let us know.

Physical Health Resources

Non of us at EH are Doctors, many of us might feel faint at the thought of medical procedures so we definitely  are not offering medical advice here. Our only goal is to raise awareness about the kind of things people with actual medical knowledge recommend. If we are not being clear, please don’t take our word for it, talk to an actual medical professional who is, you know, able to give you actual medical advice.

Below are three graphics from around the world that highlight the types of medical screenings that are recommended by age, we started with a very simple one and then another with a little  more complexity and then one with lots of information.

What is our goal; it can be difficult to take care of your own health if you don’t even know about the kind of things you should look out for and when you should.

We just want you to start thinking about your physical health. Even if you are at the start of you careers and “full of beans” getting an annual physical can set a baseline against which your chosen medical professional can track changes and risk factors. The longer your history of regular check ups the more likely it is that your Doctor will be able to spot changes to health that are potentially significant.

PPE for Women

In most countries Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required to protect people when exposed to potential hazards whilst working.

For PPE to be  effective it must fit properly and be comfortable. Regulation in Canada, Ireland , the US & UK requires that the PPE fit different body types properly.

Female bodies are different at the anatomical level to male bodies, they cannot be treated simply as smaller “male” bodies when sourcing PPE as serious injury can occur as the result of poorly fitting PPE.

PPE for female bodies can be difficult to find. In this section we are collating resource by country of places you can find PPE for female bodies.

In the future we hope to add other resources for other communities that may face similar challenges in finding safety supplies that meet their needs.

Entertaining Health does not endorse or make warranties about individual suppliers or equipment, please conduct your own assessment as to the suitability and safety of the equipment on any of the pages we link to.
